A Scary end of term

Sadly this was our last week of classes for 2009. We finished the term just before Halloween so had the chance to make some really fun scary crafts.
I have really enjoyed these past few months staring up this project and just slowly seeing where it has taken us. The children have been a real joy and I will really miss them but I know that once we start up after the holidays that I will get to see them all again.

THANK YOU so much parents for your wonderful support and faith in this small project.

Spring Time

The 21st of September here in Buenos Aires is 'el Dia de Primavera ' which means a general celebration of spring time, I therefor decided that for class it would be fun to make very large flowers, with our feet !
If you look closely you can see that the petals are made from the children 's foot prints which left my floor very messy.
The boys finished making Dragons last week and are now working on making an aquarium out of a shoe box. With the older children we are also working on writing simple sentences to practice writing and reading skills.

Sock Babies!

This week with the little ones we made sock babies. These are made by stuffing socks with kitchen roll till they feel solid enough. Then you close them using a piece of string and pulling down the top to give your baby a hat. Lastly you add eyes, mouth and some buttons. The little ones loved their sock babies and would carry them around with them for the rest of the class. We also found time to make crocodiles from card.
The boys build a giant body to label and made rockets from plastic bottles.

Piggy Banks

Today we had a fun filled class making trees with potato printing. First we named the different parts of a tree and their colors. After making the trees we started on our 'piggy banks'. The children choose the color they wanted to paint then and ended by adding sparkling sequences.
As always we read our favorite story, Eric Carle 's 'From Head to Toe'. I am also teaching the children the song, 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes!

Making Castles

This week with the older children we had a chance to build our own castles ! The boys started by looking on the net for different types of castles. They then had to choose one and do a simple sketch of it. Then I had a box full of cereal boxes, toilet rolls, egg boxes .... for them to fish through to find all the different parts they would need to construct their castles. After much cutting and sticking the castles where painted and admired with pride.
The little ones got to make number hats and pasta painted necklaces !

First weeks of term.

Art in Casa has been going for only 3 weeks but already we have 7 pupils. We have little ones on Friday evenings aged 3 to 4 years. They love to make a mess and get on extremely well with each other. We get to create fun things and in the process learn basic English vocabulary. As this group is so young they also get to have some story time at the end of class.
The Wednesday group aged 5-7 yrs is much smaller which means we can work on more detailed projects like handycrafts as well as working on reading and writing in english.
I am really happy with the classes and each week sees a child or two join the groups. At this rate after christmas we may have to look at adding more classes !
thanks
Bella
