Easter coming

With Easter just round the corner we have started making baskets to collect eggs in with the older group. The Tuesday group make their own butterflies with paint, crayon and collage. This week was cut a bit short as Wednesday was a public holiday but hopefully next week we will have time to make all our Easter pieces !

The younger children this week made indian head bands and face paintings using their fingers. I am teaching them the different parts of the face so after covering this topic last week as well they can now recognize the names.
The older boys got to make their own ships using recycled materials.

A New Year

2010 Art en Casa has really taken off with 3 out of the 4 classes being filled to maximum.
I have been busy running around organizing the new classes, thinking up art projects and meeting with parents and students. Now after over a week of classes and having hired an assistant I am beginning to find a good rhythm and am able to really enjoy getting to know the new students and seeing how creative and hard working they all are.
Welcome to all of you who have joined this year, I know that we are going to have a really great time and produce some wonderful things.

A Scary end of term

Sadly this was our last week of classes for 2009. We finished the term just before Halloween so had the chance to make some really fun scary crafts.
I have really enjoyed these past few months staring up this project and just slowly seeing where it has taken us. The children have been a real joy and I will really miss them but I know that once we start up after the holidays that I will get to see them all again.

THANK YOU so much parents for your wonderful support and faith in this small project.

Spring Time

The 21st of September here in Buenos Aires is 'el Dia de Primavera ' which means a general celebration of spring time, I therefor decided that for class it would be fun to make very large flowers, with our feet !
If you look closely you can see that the petals are made from the children 's foot prints which left my floor very messy.
The boys finished making Dragons last week and are now working on making an aquarium out of a shoe box. With the older children we are also working on writing simple sentences to practice writing and reading skills.

Sock Babies!

This week with the little ones we made sock babies. These are made by stuffing socks with kitchen roll till they feel solid enough. Then you close them using a piece of string and pulling down the top to give your baby a hat. Lastly you add eyes, mouth and some buttons. The little ones loved their sock babies and would carry them around with them for the rest of the class. We also found time to make crocodiles from card.
The boys build a giant body to label and made rockets from plastic bottles.
